CYCLE TOUR - CENTRAL/WEST CUBA - MARCH 30 TO APRIL 13, 2012

Please note that all distances mentioned each day are distances from point of departure to your destination unless mentioned.  A number of variables will determine the actual distance and because we have a bus with bike trailer which I have stop at predetermined distances, you can get on and off when you wish.  All luggage and valuables travel on the bus securely.  All accommodations are the best to be found in the towns/cities we will stay in and will range from 3 to 4 star Cuban ratings.  Your breakfast and dinner is included daily with box lunches where mentioned and we will also have “picnic” lunches when possible and prepared by our bus driver.  You will also be spending three nights at two different all inclusive resorts.

Remember, this is more than just cycling Cuba, but an opportunity to discover this unique country.  Hope we can make this cycle tour a go.

ITINERARY

Mar 30 - Arrive Santa Clara, Cuba and transfer to hotel La Granjita with accommodation and dinner.  You will have time to assemble and check out your bike for the next days ride.

Mar 31 - Breakfast and cycle to the small city of Remedios with accommodation and dinner at hotel Mascotte.  Lunch not included.  (approximately 45 kms)

April 1 - Breakfast and cycle with destination the historical city of Sancti Spiritus.  Box lunch.  Accommodation and dinner at Rancho Hatuey on the outskirts of the city.  (approximately 114 kms)

April 2 - Breakfast and cycle to Playa Ancon, 13 kms from the heritage city of Trinidad.  Box lunch.  Accommodation in all inclusive at Trinidad del Mar. (approximately 89 kms)

April 3 - Breakfast and a guided tour of Trinidad  to discover the historic importance.  Return to the resort for lunch.

April 4 - Breakfast and cycle to the city of Cienfuegos, know as the “Pearl of the south” with accommodation and dinner at hotel Jagua.  Lunch not included.  (approximately 81 kms)

April 5 - Breakfast and cycle to the city of Cumanayagua.  From Cumanayagua we will load our bikes and drive up to El Nicho park with a series of waterfalls and swimming pools in the mountains.  We will have lunch and a swim.  Dinner at Jagua hotel.  (approximately 40 kms to Cumanayagua, but hilly)

April 6 - Breakfast and cycle to Aguada de Pasajeros and the freeway.  Bus to Havana with accommodation and dinner at hotel Occidental Miramar.  Lunch not included.  (approximately 70 kms to the freeway)

April 7 - Breakfast and guided city tour.  Lunch not included.  Dinner at the famous chicken restaurant, El Aljibe.

April 8 - Breakfast and transfer to Mariel to the west of Havana and cycle towards  the town of Vinales in the magnificent Vinales valley.  Accommodation and dinner at hotel La Ermita.  Lunch not included.  (approximately 64 kms of cycling)

*April 9 - Breakfast and cycle to the beach of Cayo Jutia.  Lunch on the beach and time for a swim.  Dinner not included and we will eat out at a private house.  (appoximately 60 kms)

*April 10 - Breakfast and cycle to the freeway.  Transfer by bus to Havana.  Accommodation and dinner at Occidental Miramar. Lunch not included. (approximately 30 kms to freeway)

*April 11 - Breakfast and transfer bikes to edge of city and cycle to Jibacoa with accommodation in all inclusive at Breezes Jibacoa resort. (approximately 50 kms)

*April 12 - Breakfast and transfer to Santa Clara, where the tour began.  Accommodation and dinner at La Granjita.  Lunch not included.

April 13 - Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
