EASTERN CUBA HIKING TOUR – TBA

This hiking tour by cuba1tours is offered to hikers/trekkers with moderate to above moderate hiking skills and will have you hiking some of the most spectacular trails in Eastern Cuba.  In all, you will be guided on five hikes with local guides as well as your full time Cuban guide.  You will travel between locations in a modern, air conditioned bus with a capacity for twenty four passengers. Aside from the hikes, you will be learn about Cuban history, culture, do a couple city tours and travel through spectacular countryside. Look forward to having you along.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Arrive in Holguin in eastern Cuba.  You will be met by your Cuban guide and driver and be transferred to hotel El Bosque on the edge of the city.  If time allows, you will go on a city tour with the guide and driver and return to the hotel for dinner.  (D) DAY 2 – Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the town of Mayari and continue to the mountainous region of Pinaers de Mayari for your first hike to the base of the highest waterfall in Cuba…Salto de Guayabo.  You will return on the same trail and have lunch prepared for you at the park restaurant.  Accommodation and dinner at Villa Pinares de Mayari. (B/L/D) DAY 3 – Breakfast and head out from the Villa for your second hike to La Sabina.  This trail wanders through some amazing biospheres and you will have a local guide with you.  Many endemic plants and birds in this region.  You will have a box lunch and then return to the Villa in the afternoon.  The Villa has a small swimming pool and behind an impressive hill to climb if you desire a self guided hike to the top…spectacular views. Dinner at the Villa.  (B/L/D) DAY 4 – Breakfast and transfer to the oldest city in Cuba, Baracoa surrounded by tropical mountains, rivers and ocean.  You will stay at one of the two main hotels in the city and have dinner at the hotel.  (B/D) DAY 5 – Breakfast and transfer to the base of El Yunque (the anvil) where you will begin your hike to the top.  This impressive hill offers a strenuous hike and once at the top, an impressive view of the surrounding areas (google “hiking El Yunque, Baracoa, Cuba”).  You will have a box lunch and return to the city.  If time allows, you will go on a guided city tour.  Dinner at the hotel.  (B/L/D) DAY 6 – Breakfast and transfer to the trail head for a hike of Juncal-Rencontra.  Again, you will be experiencing the magnificent landscape of this rain forest area with its multitude of coconut trees, royal palms and cacao plantations.  You will have a box lunch and return to the hotel for a swim, relax or take in more of this fascinating city.  Dinner this evening will be at a finca (small farm) on the Duaba river outside of the town.  (B/L/D) DAY 7 – Breakfast and transfer to a small seaside community, Tacre, where the guide will pre arrange a spectacular seafood lunch for 10 cuc’s + tip per person…what an experience and what a meal!  You will also have time to swim in the Caribbean right where you have lunch.  Continue to Santiago de Cuba, Cuba’s second largest city and check into hotel San Juan, right beside San Juan hill.  Dinner at the hotel.  (B/L/D) DAY 8 – Breakfast and head out on a guided city tour of all the main, historical areas, including the famous cemetery, revolution square, the fortress and the main city square.  Transfer to the all inclusive Sierra Mar resort on the shores of the Caribbean where you will have lunch.  Free time in the afternoon or walk around the area on your own.  Dinner.  (B/L/D) DAY 9 – Breakfast and transfer to Playa Las Cuevas where you will begin your final hike into the historic and spectacular Sierra Maestra mountains.  Pico Turquino is the main peak and the highest in Cuba, but you will only hike a portion of it and get some spectacular views.  Box lunch.  After your hike, you will continue along the most beautiful drive in Cuba, although the road is not in the best shape and will eventually arrive at another all inclusive resort, Marea del Portillo, where you will spend the night.(B/L/D) DAY 10 – Breakfast and transfer to the cleanest city in Cuba, Bayamo and famous for the national anthem as well as one of Cuba’s beloved heroes, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, father of patriotism from the late 1800’s.  Your guide will pre arrange a place for you to have lunch…NOT included.  After lunch you will have time for a guided city tour.  Accommodation and dinner at hotel Royalton overlooking the main square and right downtown.  (B/D) [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_tabs admin_label=”PRICE OF TOUR”][et_pb_tab title=”PRICE OF TOUR”]
