cuban entertainment

Similar to tour to Central/ West Cuba, you will receive the best introduction to Cuba available.  The tour begins with time to relax and enjoy the amenities of a beautiful all inclusive resort on the golden shores of the Atlantic before heading off on a fully guided excursion of the eastern region of the island.  You will learn about the rich history of Cuba while discovering the culture, architecture, nature and most important, meet the people and experience how they live in this unique system.  You will visit areas outside of the heavily traveled destinations of most tourists. You will also have free time to do your own thing and since all my tours are limited to 20 people (usually no more than 14) you will also get to know the people you are traveling with.

If you are interested in this tour it is most important you book EARLY as flight availability is limited and rooms in Cuba book quickly.  Please read through the program and hope to have you along.

Day 1 – Arrive at Holguin airport in the north east end of the island and transfer to the beach resort, Playa Costa Verde, on Playa Pesquero. This is an all-inclusive 4* hotel and it has all the amenities, including free nightly entertainment. Eat, drink and relax.

Day 2
–The day is free to do as you wish and all meals are at the hotel. You can plan an excursion outside the hotel or indulge in any number of the hosted activities at the hotel.

Day 3 -After breakfast we will head off to the Cuban countryside where you will get your first taste of the "real" Cuba.  We will take time to stop along the way at points of interest and our destination is Pinares de Mayari, which is a unique lodge in the Nipe mountain range.  This is a great place to relax and hike in the amazing landscape.  Early morning is a great time to watch birds.  We will visit an exotic animal reserve before having dinner at the lodge.

Day 4- Breakfast and go for a guided walking excursion through a biosphere research centre.  Many unique and endemic plant species and you will possibly see the world's second smallest orchid.  We will then drive to another point of interest to have a look at one of Cuba's highest waterfalls or go swimming in some natural pools.  Lunch will be at the lodge and the afternoon is free.  Dinner at the lodge.

Day 5
– Breakfast and transfer to the island of Cayo Saetia, a game reserve with antelope, wild boar, zebra, etc. We will spend the night at another special lodge with plenty of areas to walk and private beaches to take a swim.  Lunch will be provided at one of the best swimming areas on the island. We will go on a jeep safari in the late afternoon to view the animals. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 6 –Breakfast and transfer to Cuba's oldest settlement, Baracoa and one of the most beautiful areas in Cuba with a vibrant night life.  The drive will take you through some interesting small towns, lovely landscape and coastal views.  We will stay at either hotel El Castillo, on hill overlooking the town or at Porto Santo, overlooking the ocean.  Dinner at the hotel.  Lunch not included.

Day 7 – Breakfast and go for a guided tour of the town with a visit to see the cross planted on the shore by Christopher Columbus in 1492.  You will also visit the local museum and learn about the colourful history of Baracoa.  After lunch (not included) we will drive to a  fishing village at the mouth of the Yumuri river and take a small boat a short distance to walk up to some magnificent swimming pools.  This area is spectacular!  Dinner at the hotel.

Day 8 – Breakfast and transfer to Playa Maguana, the most beautiful beach in this area.  You will have time to relax and swim in the ocean and we will have lunch prepared for us at a small resort.  Dinner tonight will be at Finca Duaba, a small farm in the countryside.

Day 9 – Breakfast and transfer to the second largest city in Cuba and the cradle of all revolutions, Santiago de Cuba.  The drive is great as we begin our ascent of the Farola viaduct to an elevation of 800 metres.  The many curves and switchbacks, with lush vegetation and spectacular views makes for a memorable drive.  We go from the Atlantic to the Caribbean and drive along the coast past the driest area in Cuba.  We will stay at either hotel Santiago or Villa Gaviota and have dinner at the hotel.  Santiago is rich in culture, history with lots of entertainment available.....perhaps a baseball game.

Day 10 – Breakfast and a guided city tour to learn about the history and get an overview of this fascinating place.  Included in the tour is a visit to the revolution square, the cemetary where Jose Marti rests, and Morro castle which is a seventeenth century fort built by the Spanish to protect the harbour and city.  The tour ends in the centre of the city at Cespedes park and you are free to wander o hotel patio overlooking the park.   Dinner at the hotel.n your own.  Lunch is not included, but a recommended spot to eat is at the Grand.

Day 11 – Breakfast and transfer to the all inclusive beach resort Marea del Portillo.  The drive this day is one of the most amazing drives in Cuba.  It is right along the Caribbean coast with the Sierra Maestra mountains on one side and the sea on the other.  There is very little traffic on this road and very few people, but lots of goats and little hill side villages.  One of my favourite roads.  (if road is closed we will travel a different route)

Day 12 – Breakfast and drive more of the scenic roads through the province of Granma, named after the boat which Fidel Castro and a group of revolutionaries arrived in from Mexico in 1956 to begin the march to Havana and take over the government from Batista.  You will drive close to the location he landed at.  Our destination this day is the City of Bayamo, the cleanest city in Cuba and we will spend the night at the hotel Sierra Maestra.  Great opportunity to indulge in Cuban culture and you will find the people here most friendly.  Dinner will be at the hotel.

Day 13 –Breakfast and head directly to Playa Pesquero to spend your final 2 days at Playa Costa Verde resort, where you began.

Day 14 – Day is free to indulge yourself.

Day 15 – Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
